Possible Causes

Filter basket not fully inserted, Drip-stop valve stuck closed, Misaligned filter holder, Faulty basket-closed sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the unit to cool.

  • Reinsert filter basket: Remove the filter basket and reinstall it, ensuring it is seated flat and any locking tabs are fully engaged. On swing-out basket models, close the door until it latches.
  • Check drip-stop valve: With the basket removed, locate the spring-loaded drip-stop plunger. Press it gently to confirm it moves freely. Clean off any dried coffee or oils with warm soapy water, then rinse and dry.
  • Inspect basket door: For side-swing designs, ensure the door is not warped and that the latch engages firmly. Adjust the door gently if it appears misaligned.
  • Test with water only: Reassemble and run a cycle with just water. If U18 still appears, the basket-closed sensor or associated wiring may be faulty and require service.
