Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the coffee maker before removing the brew group or opening panels.
- Remove and clean brew group: Open the service door, remove the brew group. Rinse it thoroughly under lukewarm water, paying attention to the piston, filter screen, and moving joints. Let it dry completely, then lightly lubricate the moving parts with Philips/Saeco food-grade silicone grease.
- Clean interior: With the brew group removed, check the interior of the machine for loose coffee grounds or foreign objects in the drive area. Vacuum or brush out debris.
- Reset brew group position: Reinsert the brew group carefully, ensuring it is in the neutral position (piston not extended). On some Philips models, you may need to manually rotate the drive spindle to align it. Use a plastic tool to gently rotate the drive gear to its home position (consult service documentation if available).
- Check door and switches: Ensure the service door closes fully and actuates the door switch. A faulty or misaligned door switch can also trigger E03.
If the error persists and the motor makes loud clicking or grinding noises, the drive gear or motor assembly may be damaged and require replacement. This is a moderate to advanced repair; consider professional service.
