Possible Causes

Faulty brew switch or start button, Defective control PCB relay, Broken internal wiring to heater, Lid or carafe safety switch not engaging (on some models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before opening any covers.

  • Confirm setup: Ensure the carafe is fully seated on the warming plate and the brew basket is properly installed. Some Proctor Silex models have interlocks that prevent brewing if parts are misaligned.
  • Try manual mode: On programmable models, cancel any timer settings and press the manual BREW/ON button. Wait a full minute to see if brewing starts.
  • Inspect start button: If the button feels stuck or does not click, the switch may be worn. Disassemble the control panel and test the switch for continuity when pressed.
  • Check lid/carafe switch: If your model has a lid or carafe sensor, verify that the actuator tab is not broken and that the switch clicks when engaged.
  • Advanced: If switches test good, the control PCB or heater relay may have failed. Replacement of the control board is required in that case.
