Possible Causes
Mineral deposits in aluminum heater tube, Clogged internal water channels, Hard water use without regular descaling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before filling with cleaning solution.
- Prepare descaling solution: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Fill the reservoir to the maximum level.
- Run cleaning cycle: If your Proctor Silex model has a dedicated CLEAN button, press and hold it as directed in the manual to start the cleaning program. If not, start a regular brew cycle.
- Soak phase: Allow the unit to brew about halfway, then press the power button to pause. Let the solution sit in the system for 20–30 minutes to dissolve scale.
- Complete and rinse: Resume the cycle to finish. Then run 2–3 full cycles with fresh water to remove vinegar taste and loosened debris.
- Reset indicator: On some models, the CLEAN light will turn off automatically after a full cleaning cycle. Others may require pressing and holding the CLEAN button for several seconds to reset.
