Display shows E02 and the machine does not heat the steam boiler; no steam available.

Safety: Unplug the machine and let it cool. Steam boilers can remain under pressure; open the steam valve to release residual pressure before service.

• Visual inspection: Remove the service panels. Locate the steam boiler and its heating element terminals. Check for burnt connectors or loose spade terminals.
• Check high‑limit thermostat: Many Rancilio steam boilers have a manual‑reset thermostat on top. Press the small reset button if present. Restore power and see if E02 clears. If it trips again, there is an underlying issue (scale, low water, sensor failure).
• Test the element: With power disconnected, remove the element wires and measure resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
• Test the NTC sensor: Locate the steam boiler temperature probe. Inspect wiring and connector. Measure resistance and compare to spec; replace if open/shorted or if the connector is heat‑damaged.
• Control board: If all components test good, the steam heater relay on the main control board may not be switching. Check for burnt traces or relay damage. Replace the board if defective.

Note: Replacing a steam boiler element often requires draining the boiler and replacing the gasket. If unsure, use a professional service center.
