Possible Causes
Empty or improperly seated water tank, Failed water level sensor in reservoir, Faulty boiler level probe, Defective inlet solenoid valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Basic checks:
- Water tank: Fill the reservoir with fresh water and ensure it is fully seated. Some Rancilio models use a magnet or float; make sure it moves freely.
- Clean tank contacts: If your model uses electrical contacts under the tank, unplug the machine and clean the contacts and tank base with a damp cloth to remove scale or coffee residue.
- Level sensor / float: Inspect the internal tank float or magnetic level sensor. If stuck, clean and free it. Replace a cracked or waterlogged float.
- Boiler level probe: For plumbed‑in models, remove the top cover and locate the boiler level probe. Clean mineral deposits from the probe with descaler; heavy scale can prevent proper level detection.
- Inlet solenoid valve: If the pump runs but no water enters the boiler, the inlet solenoid may be stuck closed. Gently tap the valve body and try again. If still blocked, remove and descale or replace the valve.
Warning: Do not run the machine with no water; this can damage the pump and heating elements.
