Possible Causes
Failed steam boiler NTC sensor, Scale buildup causing inaccurate temperature readings, Stuck steam heater relay, Poor thermal contact between sensor and boiler
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off, unplug, and allow the machine to cool. Release steam pressure via the steam wand.
- Inspect sensor mounting: Locate the steam boiler NTC sensor. Ensure it is firmly threaded into the boiler or clamped with good contact. Loose sensors can misread temperature.
- Check wiring: Look for brittle or heat‑damaged insulation near the boiler. Repair or replace damaged harness sections.
- Descale boiler: If the boiler is heavily scaled, temperature distribution becomes uneven. Perform a controlled descaling procedure according to Rancilio guidelines.
- Test sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to spec. Replace the sensor if readings are out of range.
- Control board relay: If the heater continues to energize when the setpoint is reached, the relay may be stuck. Replace the main control board.
