Possible Causes
Faulty boiler level probe, Poor ground reference on boiler, Failed Gicar level control circuit, Limescale on level probe tip
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine. Allow it to cool before removing covers.
- Check water supply: Ensure the reservoir is full and correctly seated, or if plumbed-in, that the water supply valve is open and the line is not kinked.
- Clean the level probe: Remove the top cover and locate the boiler level probe (a thin stainless rod entering the top or side of the boiler). With the machine cool and depressurized, carefully remove the probe and clean the tip with a Scotch-Brite pad to remove scale. Reinstall with a new sealing washer if needed.
- Verify boiler ground: The level system relies on a good ground connection. Check the ground wire from the boiler to the chassis and to the Gicar box. Tighten any loose screws.
- Test operation: Reassemble, refill the reservoir, and power on. If the error persists, the Gicar control box or probe may need replacement.
