Possible Causes
Airlock in rotary or vibratory pump, Blocked inlet hose or filter, Failed Ulka vibratory pump or rotary pump motor, Stuck inlet solenoid valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before disconnecting any hoses. Expect some water spillage.
- Confirm water source: Ensure the reservoir is full and properly seated, or that the plumbed-in line has adequate pressure. Clean the reservoir pickup filter if present.
- Prime the pump: For reservoir-fed machines, remove the reservoir, fill it completely, and reseat firmly. Start a brew cycle and open the hot water tap briefly to help purge air from the system.
- Check inlet hose and filter: Inspect the silicone or braided hose from the reservoir or mains to the pump. Look for kinks or blockages. Clean or replace any inline filters or softeners.
- Listen to the pump: A healthy pump has a steady, strong sound. A weak hum or no sound suggests a failed pump or no power to it. If the pump is receiving power but not moving water, it likely needs replacement.
- Solenoid valve check: If the pump runs but no water enters the boiler, the inlet solenoid may be stuck closed. Tapping it lightly with a screwdriver handle while the pump runs can sometimes free it temporarily, but replacement is the proper fix.
