Possible Causes

Blocked group head or shower screen, Clogged flow restrictor or gicleur, Stuck brew solenoid valve, Scale buildup in HX or brew passages

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the machine off and allow it to cool before removing group components.

  • Check with no portafilter: Run a brew cycle without the portafilter. If water flows freely, the issue is likely grind/tamp or basket blockage, not the machine.
  • Clean shower screen and group: Remove the shower screen and dispersion plate from the E61 group. Soak them in a coffee detergent solution and scrub clean. Brush the group head thoroughly.
  • Backflush the group: Use a blind basket and espresso machine detergent. Run several backflush cycles to clear coffee oils and minor debris from the brew solenoid and passages.
  • Persistent no-flow: If there is still no water at the group, the brew solenoid valve or gicleur may be blocked with scale. These require disassembly of the E61 group and solenoid, which is best done by an experienced user or technician.
