Possible Causes
Clogged shower screen, Blocked E61 gicleur, Coffee residue in group passages, Stuck three-way brew solenoid valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the machine. Allow it to cool before working on the group head.
- Remove and clean shower screen: Unscrew the central screw, remove the shower screen and dispersion plate, and soak them in espresso machine detergent. Scrub thoroughly and rinse.
- Backflush with detergent: Insert a blind basket in the portafilter, add a small amount of backflush detergent, and run several pump cycles, pausing between each. This cleans the three-way valve and internal passages.
- Rinse cycles: Perform multiple backflush cycles with clean water to remove detergent residue.
- Check flow again: Reinstall the clean shower screen and test water flow without coffee. If flow is still restricted, the gicleur or internal passages may be scaled and require partial disassembly of the E61 group.
