Possible Causes

Scaled heat exchanger (HX) passages, Partially blocked gicleur, Scale in brew solenoid valve, Dirty group head and dispersion plate

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug and cool the machine before removing any parts.

  • Eliminate coffee variables: Test flow with an empty portafilter or no portafilter. If flow is still weak, the restriction is in the machine.
  • Deep clean group: Remove and clean the shower screen and dispersion plate. Backflush thoroughly with detergent as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Descale (if appropriate): If the machine has not been descaled and you have hard water, consider a controlled descaling procedure following Rocket's recommendations. Avoid aggressive descaling on heavily scaled machines without professional guidance, as it can dislodge large particles.
  • Inspect gicleur (advanced): The small jet (gicleur) in the E61 group can be removed and cleaned with a fine wire. This requires careful disassembly; if unsure, consult a technician.
