Possible Causes

Carafe not fully seated on warming plate, Drip-stop lever stuck in closed position, Carafe presence microswitch misaligned or failed, Broken spring on anti-drip mechanism

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and ensure the hot plate is cool before touching the carafe area.

  • Reseat the carafe: Remove the glass carafe and place it back firmly so that the spout is centered under the filter basket. Ensure it is pushed fully back to engage the drip-stop lever.
  • Check anti-drip mechanism: Open the filter basket and locate the drip-stop valve. Press it up and down; it should move freely and spring back. Clean any dried coffee residue that may prevent movement.
  • Clean the warming plate: Wipe the plate and the bottom of the carafe to remove coffee spills that may prevent proper seating.
  • Test again: Plug the unit back in and start a brew cycle. If E4 clears when you press the drip-stop lever manually, the carafe presence microswitch or lever alignment is suspect.
  • If still faulty: The carafe presence microswitch or drip-stop lever assembly may need replacement, which requires opening the housing and is best done by a technician.
