Possible Causes

Blocked water inlet or filter, Scaled hydraulic circuit, Defective flow meter, Weak or failed ULKA pump

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and let the machine cool before removing the water tank or opening panels.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Check water tank: Remove the tank, rinse it, and ensure the outlet valve at the bottom moves freely. Re-seat the tank firmly so the valve opens fully.
  • Remove air locks: Fill the tank completely, reinstall, then run a hot water or rinse cycle. If the pump is noisy and no water flows, stop and repeat to purge air.
  • Descale the machine: If flow is weak, run a full descaling cycle using Saeco-approved descaler. Follow the on-screen prompts and do not interrupt the cycle.
  • Check external filter: If using an AquaClean or Brita Intenza filter, remove it and test the machine without the filter. A clogged filter can trigger E02.
  • Inspect for kinks: On models with external hoses (e.g., milk carafe lines), ensure no kinks or pinched hoses are restricting flow.

When to call a technician: If E02 persists after descaling and filter removal, the flow meter or ULKA pump may be defective and should be tested and replaced by a professional.
