Possible Causes
Running machine without water, Severely scaled thermocoil, Failed thermocoil temperature sensor, Blocked inlet line causing dry firing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine and allow it to cool fully. Do not attempt to run the heater without confirmed water supply.
- Restore water supply:
- Fill the water tank completely and ensure it is properly seated.
- Remove any clogged water filter and test without it.
- Clear scale:
- If the machine will allow, run a full descale cycle using Sage-approved descaler.
- Repeat if the water flow is still weak, as heavy scale can require multiple treatments.
- Reset attempt: After cooling and descaling, power the machine back on. If ER09 clears but returns quickly, the thermocoil may be partially blocked or its sensor faulty.
- Internal inspection (advanced):
- Access the brew thermocoil and check for kinks in hoses and signs of overheating.
- Inspect the thermocoil temperature sensor and thermal fuse for damage.
- Repair: Replace the brew thermocoil assembly if it is heavily scaled internally or has overheated. Replace associated sensors/fuses as needed.
