Possible Causes
Blocked over-pressure valve (OPV), Faulty pressure sensor, Excessive puck resistance, Blocked group head shower screen
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine before removing any covers. Release pressure by allowing the machine to cool.
- Check coffee puck resistance:
- Use a coarser grind and slightly lower dose to ensure you are not over-restricting flow.
- Test with a single-wall basket and then with a blind cleaning disc to compare behavior.
- Clean group head:
- Remove and thoroughly clean the group head shower screen and screw.
- Backflush with Sage-approved espresso machine cleaner if your model supports backflushing.
- Descale: Run a descale cycle to clear any scale from the OPV and internal passages.
- Internal checks (advanced):
- Inspect the OPV (over-pressure valve) for blockage or misadjustment.
- Check the pressure sensor connection to the pump/manifold and to the PCB.
- Repair: Replace a faulty pressure sensor or OPV assembly if they are not responding correctly. Calibration may be required.
