Possible Causes

Blocked over-pressure valve (OPV), Faulty pressure sensor, Excessive puck resistance, Blocked group head shower screen

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the machine before removing any covers. Release pressure by allowing the machine to cool.

  • Check coffee puck resistance:
    • Use a coarser grind and slightly lower dose to ensure you are not over-restricting flow.
    • Test with a single-wall basket and then with a blind cleaning disc to compare behavior.
  • Clean group head:
    • Remove and thoroughly clean the group head shower screen and screw.
    • Backflush with Sage-approved espresso machine cleaner if your model supports backflushing.
  • Descale: Run a descale cycle to clear any scale from the OPV and internal passages.
  • Internal checks (advanced):
    • Inspect the OPV (over-pressure valve) for blockage or misadjustment.
    • Check the pressure sensor connection to the pump/manifold and to the PCB.
  • Repair: Replace a faulty pressure sensor or OPV assembly if they are not responding correctly. Calibration may be required.
