Possible Causes

Hardened or cracked group head gasket, Excessive coffee on gasket surface, Worn portafilter lugs, Incorrect basket height

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Allow the group head to cool before touching.

  • Clean gasket area:
    • Remove the portafilter and wipe the underside of the group head to remove coffee grounds.
    • Ensure the rim of the filter basket is clean and undamaged.
  • Check portafilter fit: If the handle rotates too far to the right or feels loose, the gasket may be worn.
  • Replace group head gasket:
    • Remove the shower screen and pry out the old group head seal with a suitable tool.
    • Clean the groove and install a new Sage-compatible gasket.
  • Inspect portafilter: Replace the portafilter if the lugs are worn and no longer seal properly.
