Possible Causes
Open thermal fuse on boiler, failed thermostat, severe limescale causing dry‑boil, defective control PCB driving heater continuously
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker. Do not attempt to bypass any thermal fuse or thermostat; fire and burn hazard.
- Allow full cool-down: Let the unit sit unplugged for at least 1 hour to ensure all components are cool.
- Descale (if it will run): If the machine still heats somewhat, run a descaling cycle to remove scale from the boiler.
- Inspect for leaks: Check under and around the machine for water leaks that could cause overheating or shorting.
- Internal checks (technician level): The thermal fuse is usually strapped to the boiler. If it is open, it must be replaced with the exact same rating. The cause of overheating (thermostat or control PCB fault) must also be diagnosed.
- Do not operate with bypassed safety: If the thermal fuse is blown, do not attempt to run the machine until it is properly repaired.
