Possible Causes
Clogged brew group, Blocked coffee spout or internal coffee duct, Excessive scale in hydraulic circuit, Faulty overpressure valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the machine OFF, unplug it, and allow it to cool before disassembling any parts.
- Remove and clean brew group (if removable model): Open the service door, slide out the brew group assembly, and rinse it thoroughly under warm water. Use a soft brush to clean the coffee screen and moving parts. Let it dry and reinstall.
- Clean coffee spouts: Remove the front coffee spout assembly if possible. Soak it in warm water with mild detergent, then flush from both directions to clear coffee oils and fines.
- Run descaling cycle: Use SMEG-approved descaler and run a full descaling program according to the user manual. This helps clear scale from the hydraulic circuit and overpressure valve.
- Check coffee grind: If using an integrated grinder, adjust to a slightly coarser grind. If using ground coffee, avoid very fine espresso powder that can choke the system.
- Inspect overpressure valve (advanced): With the cover removed (only if you are qualified), locate the overpressure valve on the pump outlet. Check for scale or blockage and replace if leaking or stuck.
- If E02 remains: The internal hydraulic circuit may be severely blocked or the overpressure valve/pump may be failing. Contact SMEG service for professional repair.
