Possible Causes

Jammed brew group mechanism, Broken brew group drive gear, Faulty brew group motor, Defective position sensor or microswitch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch OFF, unplug, and wait for moving parts to stop before accessing the brew group.

  • Remove brew group: Open the service door and carefully slide out the brew group. If it is stuck, do not force it; gently wiggle while pulling.
  • Clean and lubricate: Rinse the brew group under warm water, clean coffee residues from the piston and screens, and apply food-safe silicone grease to the sliding rails and seals.
  • Check for obstructions: Inspect the brew chamber area inside the machine for loose coffee pucks or foreign objects blocking the drive mechanism.
  • Reinstall correctly: Ensure the brew group is in the neutral position (piston down) before reinserting. Push firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Reset machine: Plug in, power ON, and allow the machine to perform its startup cycle. If E07 persists, the drive motor, gears, or position sensor may be faulty.
  • Service required: Internal drive components are not user-serviceable; contact SMEG service for motor/gearbox replacement.
