E11 appears and the machine reports a milk system or frother error on models with integrated milk carafe.

Safety first: Turn OFF, unplug, and allow the steam circuit to cool before disassembling the milk system.

• Disassemble milk carafe: Remove the milk carafe and take apart the lid, suction tube, and frothing nozzle according to the manual.
• Soak and clean: Soak all milk-contact parts in warm water with food-safe detergent. Use a small brush to clean internal passages. Rinse thoroughly.
• Clean steam outlet: Wipe the steam outlet on the machine and clear any dried milk with a pin or needle (do not enlarge the hole).
• Run cleaning cycle: Many SMEG models have a milk system cleaning program. Run it with fresh water in the carafe to flush the circuit.
• Check carafe seating and sensor: Reinstall the carafe firmly. Ensure any magnets or tabs used for detection are intact and clean.
• If E11 persists: The internal steam valve or milk system sensor may be defective. Professional diagnosis is recommended.
