Possible Causes
Long-term use without descaling, Very hard water usage, Blocked internal boiler channels, Stuck solenoid valves due to scale
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF, unplug, and allow the machine to cool before starting any maintenance.
- Run extended descaling: Perform two consecutive descaling cycles using SMEG-approved descaler, following the manual precisely. Do not shorten the process.
- Soak steam wand and outlets: If accessible, soak the steam wand tip and coffee spouts in descaling solution to dissolve external scale.
- Use filtered water: After descaling, switch to filtered or low-mineral water to prevent recurrence.
- If E13 remains: Internal passages may be fully blocked, or valves may be seized. Professional disassembly and manual descaling or replacement of the boiler/valves will be required.
