How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch OFF, unplug, and wait for moving parts to stop.
- Remove and clean brew group: Take out the brew group, rinse it, and ensure it moves smoothly through its range of motion.
- Inspect sensor area: Look inside the machine where the brew group seats. Clean any coffee grounds from the position sensor or microswitch area.
- Reinsert brew group correctly: Make sure the brew group is in the home position (as described in the manual) before reinserting.
- Test startup: Power ON and let the machine run its self-test. If E18 reappears, the position sensor or associated cam may be damaged.
- Professional repair: Replacement of the sensor or mechanical linkage is recommended via SMEG service.
