Possible Causes

Tripped thermal fuse on heating element, Blocked water path causing dry-fire, Failed thermostat stuck open, Loose connection in heater circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. The heating element and internal boiler can remain hot even after power is removed.

  • 1. Allow full cool-down
    • Leave the unit unplugged until the warming plate is completely cool to the touch.
    • After cooling, plug it back in and try a fresh brew cycle with a full reservoir.
  • 2. Descale to prevent dry heating
    • Fill the reservoir with a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water.
    • Run a brew cycle without coffee grounds to clear mineral buildup that can restrict flow and cause overheating.
    • Follow with 2–3 full cycles of clean water to rinse.
  • 3. Inspect heater circuit (advanced)
    • Unplug the unit and remove the bottom cover.
    • Locate the heating element, thermal fuse, and thermostat mounted to the boiler or warming plate.
    • Check for burnt connectors, discolored insulation, or a visibly blown thermal fuse.
  • 4. Replace failed safety components
    • If the thermal fuse is open (no continuity) it must be replaced with the same temperature and current rating.
    • Do not bypass or short the thermal fuse or thermostat; this defeats critical safety protection.
  • 5. Seek service
    • If E3 returns after descaling and inspection, the control board or heater assembly may be defective and should be serviced or replaced by a qualified technician.
