Possible Causes
Moisture intrusion into control panel, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and main PCB, Shorted keypad membrane, Failed microcontroller on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before opening any housing or control panel. Avoid using liquids directly on the display or buttons.
- 1. Dry the control panel
- If the panel was recently cleaned or exposed to steam, unplug the unit and let it air dry for 24 hours in a warm, dry area.
- Do not use a hair dryer on high heat; gentle airflow only if needed.
- 2. Power reset
- After drying, plug the unit back in.
- Press and hold the power or program button for 10–15 seconds to reset (if supported by your model).
- 3. Inspect keypad ribbon cable (advanced)
- Unplug the unit and remove the screws securing the top or front control panel.
- Carefully lift the panel to access the flat ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the main PCB.
- Reseat the cable by unplugging and firmly reinserting it, ensuring it is straight and fully engaged.
- 4. Look for corrosion
- Check the PCB and connector pins for green or white corrosion from moisture.
- Lightly clean with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush, then let dry completely.
- 5. Replacement
- If E5 persists, the keypad membrane or main control board is likely defective.
- Replace the control panel keypad assembly or the main PCB with the correct Sunbeam part number for your model.
