Possible Causes
Warming plate still above safe temperature, Thermostat slow to reset, Faulty temperature sensor reading high, Blocked ventilation around base
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not touch the warming plate or internal boiler until they have cooled. Unplug the unit while waiting.
- 1. Allow cooling time
- Unplug the coffee maker and wait 20–30 minutes.
- Once the warming plate is cool to the touch, plug back in and check if the HOT message clears.
- 2. Improve ventilation
- Ensure the coffee maker is on a hard, flat surface with several inches of clearance around it.
- Avoid placing it under low cabinets where heat can build up.
- 3. Reset by power cycling
- After cooling, unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect and attempt a brew cycle.
- 4. Sensor inspection (advanced)
- If HOT remains even when the unit is cold, the thermistor or thermostat may be faulty.
- Unplug, remove the bottom cover, and inspect the sensor wiring and mounting on the warming plate.
- 5. Replace faulty sensor
- If the sensor is damaged or tests out of specification, replace it with the correct Sunbeam thermistor or thermostat assembly.
