Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before removing any parts.
Deep descaling:
- Fill the reservoir with a strong descaling solution as recommended by Swan.
- Start the descale program if possible. If it stops with E8, unplug the unit and let it sit for 30 minutes to allow the solution to soak inside the boiler and tubing.
- Plug back in and restart the descale cycle. Repeat the soak-and-run process 2–3 times for heavy scale.
Shower head and outlet cleaning:
- Remove the brew head or shower plate (on Swan espresso or advanced drip models) and clean all holes with a pin or soft brush.
- Rinse thoroughly and reinstall, ensuring the gasket is seated correctly.
Flow meter and pump:
- If E8 persists, the flow meter may be stuck. Access it via the side or bottom panel and flush it with descaling solution.
- Check the pump inlet and outlet hoses for blockages or kinks.
If water flow cannot be restored after thorough descaling and cleaning, the pump or flow meter may need replacement.
