Possible Causes

Empty water tank, Water tank not seated correctly on base, Faulty water level sensor or float, Damaged tank presence microswitch on base

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before inspecting or moving parts. Never work on the unit while it is hot or connected to power.

  • Check water level: Remove the water reservoir, fill it at least to the MIN mark with fresh, cold water, and reinstall it firmly. Make sure it clicks or sits flat on the base.
  • Reseat the tank: Wipe the bottom of the tank and the base contacts with a dry cloth. Ensure there is no debris preventing the tank from sitting fully down.
  • Inspect the float: If your T-fal model has a visible float inside the reservoir, verify it moves freely up and down. Clean any scale or coffee residue that may cause it to stick.
  • Test the switch: With the unit unplugged, press gently on the tank area where it engages the base. You should feel a slight click from the presence microswitch. If the tank is seated but the machine still shows E01, the switch or level sensor may be faulty.
  • Reset the unit: Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try again with the tank properly filled and seated.

If E01 persists after these checks, the internal level sensor or tank presence switch likely needs replacement and professional service is recommended.
