Possible Causes
Blown thermal fuse in heating element circuit, Failed on/off rocker switch, Faulty power cord or plug, Open primary thermostat on boiler
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Moccamaster from the wall outlet before any inspection. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
- Check the outlet: Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet to confirm it has power. Try a different outlet without a power strip.
- Inspect the power cord: Look for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. If damaged, the cord must be replaced by a qualified technician.
- Test the on/off switch: Toggle the rocker switch several times. If it feels loose, gritty, or does not latch, the switch may be faulty and needs replacement.
- Internal checks (advanced): Remove the bottom cover (typically Torx or Phillips screws) to access the boiler assembly. Locate the thermal fuse and primary thermostat mounted on or near the copper/aluminum boiler. Use a multimeter (continuity mode) to test across the thermal fuse and thermostat. If either is open (no continuity), it must be replaced with the same temperature and rating.
- Reassembly: Reinstall the bottom cover securely, ensuring no wires are pinched. Test the unit again.
- When to stop: If you are not comfortable working with mains wiring or cannot identify the thermal fuse/thermostat, stop and contact a service technician.
