Possible Causes
Burned-out hotplate heating element, Failed hotplate thermostat, Faulty hotplate on/off switch (if separate), Loose wiring to hotplate terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the coffee maker and allow the hotplate to cool completely before inspection.
- Confirm symptom: After a brew cycle, the hotplate should be warm to the touch (but not glowing). If it remains cold, proceed.
- Check hotplate switch: On models with a separate hotplate switch, toggle it several times. If the indicator light does not come on, the switch may be faulty.
- Internal testing (advanced):
- Remove the bottom cover to access the hotplate wiring.
- Disconnect the hotplate element leads.
- Measure resistance across the hotplate element with a multimeter. An open reading indicates a failed element.
- Test the hotplate thermostat for continuity at room temperature; an open thermostat must be replaced.
- Repair: Replace the hotplate assembly or thermostat with genuine Moccamaster parts. Ensure all connections are secure and insulated.
