Possible Causes
Steam thermostat open, Steam solenoid valve blocked, Steam thermistor faulty, Heavy scale in steam circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool fully. Steam components can remain hot for a long time.
Steps:
- Clean steam wand: Remove the steam nozzle tip and soak it in hot water with a little detergent. Use a fine needle to clear any milk residue from the nozzle holes.
- Descale steam circuit: Run a descaling cycle and, if your model allows, open the steam function during descaling to flush the steam path.
- Check for steam at boiler: If you hear the boiler heating but no steam exits the wand, the steam solenoid valve may be blocked. This requires internal access.
- Access steam thermostat (advanced): Remove covers to locate the steam thermostat or thermistor on the boiler. Inspect for loose wires or burnt connectors.
- Resettable thermostat: If a manual-reset thermostat is present, press it gently to reset. If it trips repeatedly, there is an underlying overheating or scale issue.
- Reassemble and test: After cleaning and descaling, reassemble and test steam. Persistent E10 usually indicates a failed thermostat or solenoid valve that must be replaced.
