Possible Causes
Boiler heating element overheated due to dry-fire, Thermal fuse or thermostat opened, Scale buildup causing localized overheating, Faulty temperature sensor on heating block
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before any inspection.
- Check water level: Ensure the water reservoir is filled above the minimum line. Running the unit dry can trigger overheat protection.
- Power reset: After cooling, plug the unit back in and try powering it on. Some models reset the overheat condition after a full power cycle.
- Descale the system: If the unit powers on but quickly shows E02 again, run a full descaling cycle using a manufacturer-approved descaling solution. Follow the Wolf Gourmet manual for the descaling procedure to remove mineral buildup on the heating block.
- Inspect for external blockage: Check that the bottom and rear vents are not blocked by cabinets or objects, which can trap heat.
- If E02 remains: The internal thermal fuse, thermostat, or temperature sensor on the heating block may have failed. These components are mounted on the boiler/heating block and require opening the chassis, which should be performed only by a qualified service technician.
