Possible Causes
Coffee bean jam in grinder burrs, Foreign object in grinder (stone, metal), Worn or seized grinder motor, Faulty grinder motor driver on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine before working near the grinder. Keep fingers away from burrs.
- Empty bean hopper: Remove all beans from the hopper. Vacuum out loose grounds from the top of the grinder.
- Check for foreign objects: With a flashlight, inspect the grinder inlet for stones, screws, or other objects. Remove any obstruction with tweezers.
- Manually free the burrs: If accessible, rotate the upper burr carrier by hand (or with the grind adjustment knob) to loosen compacted coffee. Do not force it excessively.
- Clean grinder: Remove the upper burr (if user-removable on your Zwilling model). Brush away compacted coffee from both burrs and the chute. Reassemble.
- Test without beans: Plug in, leave the hopper empty, and start a grind cycle. If the grinder runs smoothly without E04, add a small amount of beans and test again.
- If motor still stalls: The grinder motor may be worn or the control board's driver circuit may be faulty. Replacement of the grinder motor assembly or main board is recommended and may require a professional.
