Possible Causes
Stuck brew head outlet valve, Coffee residue blocking valve movement, Failed outlet valve motor or actuator, Faulty valve position sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine before accessing the brew head area.
- Clean brew head: Remove the portafilter or brew basket and thoroughly clean the brew head, including the outlet holes and gasket area.
- Backflush (if applicable): On models that support it, use a blind filter and a cleaning tablet to backflush the brew head and outlet valve according to the manual.
- Inspect outlet valve: With covers removed, locate the outlet valve assembly near the brew head. Check for coffee buildup or scale around moving parts.
- Manually exercise valve: Gently move the valve actuator by hand (if accessible) to free it. Do not force it.
- Check motor and sensor: Verify that the small motor or solenoid that drives the valve receives power during startup (requires electrical skills). Replace the valve motor or position sensor if non-functional.
