Cordless vacuum smells musty or emits an unpleasant odor during use

Possible Causes
Dirty or damp filters, Organic debris left in bin, Pet hair buildup in cyclone, Use on moist surfaces without proper drying
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before cleaning. Do not use harsh chemicals inside the vacuum.
- Empty and wash bin: Remove the dirt bin and wash it with mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
- Clean or replace filters: Wash washable filters with cool water and let them dry for at least 24 hours. Replace any filters that remain smelly or discolored.
- Clean cyclone and air path: Use a dry brush to remove dust and hair from the cyclone shroud and internal passages. Avoid soaking non-removable cyclone parts unless the manual explicitly allows it.
- Prevent recurrence: Empty the bin after each use, especially after picking up pet hair or food debris. Do not store the vacuum with a full bin.
- Optional odor control: Use only Bissell-approved scented filter inserts or deodorizers if available for your model; do not place loose powders inside the vacuum.
