Possible Causes

Hair or string wrapped around brush roll, Debris jammed in brush end caps, Failed brush roll motor, Damaged brush drive belt or gear train (where used)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the vacuum OFF and remove the battery pack before working on the brush roll.

  • Remove the floor nozzle cover: Release the locking tabs or screws (depending on model) and lift off the clear brush window or bottom plate.
  • Clear hair and debris: Carefully cut away hair, thread, and fibers from the brush roll with scissors. Pay special attention to the ends near the bearings or end caps.
  • Check end caps: On many Bissell cordless nozzles, the brush roll end caps can be pulled off. Remove them and clear any wrapped hair or compacted debris. Ensure the brush roll spins freely when turned by hand.
  • Inspect drive system: If your model uses a belt or gear drive, check for a broken or stretched belt, or stripped gears. Replace the belt or brush drive assembly if damaged.
  • Test the brush motor: Reassemble the nozzle, reinstall the battery, and turn the vacuum on. Toggle the brush on/off button (if equipped). If the brush still does not spin and E3 reappears, the brush motor or nozzle assembly is likely faulty and should be replaced.
