Possible Causes
Battery pack too hot or too cold, Faulty temperature sensor in battery pack, Defective charger, Damaged charging contacts on dock or vacuum
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the charger from the wall before inspecting contacts. Do not attempt to open the battery pack.
- Allow battery to cool or warm: If the vacuum was used heavily just before charging, let the battery sit at room temperature for 30–60 minutes before placing it on the charger. Avoid charging in very hot or very cold environments.
- Inspect charging contacts: Check the metal contacts on the battery, vacuum, and charging base for dirt, corrosion, or deformation. Clean gently with a dry cloth or cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol. Ensure contacts are not bent or recessed.
- Test charger output: Plug the charger directly into a known-good wall outlet (avoid power strips). If available, test with another compatible Bissell cordless vacuum or battery to confirm the charger is working.
- Check for physical damage: Look for cracks or swelling in the battery pack. If present, discontinue use immediately and replace the battery.
- Replace faulty component: If E5 persists with a cool battery and known-good charger, the battery pack’s internal temperature sensor or protection circuit is likely faulty. Replace the battery pack. If multiple batteries show E5 on the same charger, replace the charger or charging dock.
