Battery Pack Undervoltage Lockout
Cordless vacuum shows E9 and will not start; often after storage or shipping

Possible Causes
Deeply discharged lithium-ion cells, Battery pack left uncharged for extended period, Faulty battery protection circuit, Defective charger not providing correct voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use only the original or Bissell-approved charger. Do not attempt to jump-start or open the battery pack.
- Charge uninterrupted: Place the vacuum or battery on the charger and leave it connected for at least 3–4 hours, even if no lights appear initially. Some packs need time to recover from deep discharge.
- Check charger indicators: Verify that the charger LED or dock indicator behaves normally (steady or slow blink). If there is no light at all, test the charger on another compatible unit or replace the charger.
- Try a different outlet: Plug the charger directly into a wall outlet, avoiding power strips or extension cords.
- Assess battery age: If the battery is several years old or has been stored fully discharged, it may no longer accept a charge. Replace the battery pack.
- Persistent E9: If E9 remains after extended charging with a known-good charger, the battery’s internal protection circuit has likely locked out or failed. Replace the battery pack; do not attempt to open or repair it.
