Possible Causes
Faulty battery pack sense line, Corroded sense contacts, Defective battery management IC in pack, Main PCB fuel gauge circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before inspecting contacts. Do not open the battery pack.
- Clean contacts: Inspect all battery and vacuum contacts, including any smaller sense pins, for corrosion or contamination. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.
- Reset battery connection: Reinstall the battery firmly until it clicks. Wiggle gently to ensure there is no play.
- Test with another battery: If a second Bissell battery shows normal behavior, replace the original battery pack.
- Observe runtime: If the vacuum actually runs for a normal duration despite incorrect display, the issue may be limited to the gauge circuit. You can continue to use the vacuum but plan for battery or PCB replacement.
- Main board replacement: If multiple batteries show the same F5 behavior, the main control board’s fuel gauge circuit is likely faulty and may need replacement.
