Possible Causes
Blocked cooling vents around motor, Severely clogged filters restricting airflow, Worn motor bearings causing overheating, Operating in very hot ambient conditions
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum, remove the battery, and allow the unit to cool completely. If you smell burning plastic, stop using the vacuum until inspected.
- Clean all filters: Remove the dust bin, pre-filter, and main filter (HEPA/foam). Tap off dust and wash if the manual allows. Let filters dry completely before reinstalling.
- Check air paths: Inspect the cyclonic separator, bin inlet, wand, and nozzle for blockages. Clear any debris.
- Clean motor vents: Use a soft brush or compressed air (short bursts, from a distance) to remove dust from the motor housing vents.
- Test in cool environment: Reassemble and test the vacuum in a cooler room on low power first. If E5 recurs quickly, the motor may be overheating due to internal wear.
- Discontinue use if smell persists: Persistent burning smell or very hot housing indicates a failing motor that should be replaced by a qualified technician.
