Possible Causes

Blocked airflow through dust bin or filters, Completely clogged HEPA exhaust filter, Operating on high power for extended periods with restricted airflow, Failing thermal sensor on motor housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the vacuum OFF, remove the battery pack, and allow the unit to cool for at least 30 minutes before handling internal parts.

  • Step 1 – Let the unit cool: Place the vacuum in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. Do not cover it while cooling.
  • Step 2 – Empty and clean dust bin: Remove the dust container and empty it fully. Wipe the inside with a dry cloth to remove fine dust.
  • Step 3 – Clean all filters:
    • Pre-motor filter: Tap off dust and, if allowed by the manual, rinse with lukewarm water. Let it dry completely (24 hours).
    • HEPA exhaust filter: Remove the rear HEPA filter. Tap gently to remove dust. If it is heavily discolored or damaged, replace it with a genuine Bomann HEPA filter for your model.
  • Step 4 – Check air vents: Inspect all cooling and exhaust vents on the motor housing and body. Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove lint and dust.
  • Step 5 – Reduce load: When you resume use, start on a lower power setting and avoid pressing the nozzle tightly against carpets or upholstery, which restricts airflow.
  • Step 6 – Monitor for recurrence: If E3 reappears quickly even with clean filters and good airflow, the thermal sensor or motor windings may be faulty.

Persistent overheating indicates a deeper electrical issue. In that case, have a qualified technician inspect the motor assembly and thermal sensor on the main control PCB.
