Possible Causes

Hair or debris jammed in brush bar, Failed brush bar motor, Broken drive belt (on belt-driven heads), Damaged floorhead wiring loom

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Remove the battery and disconnect the floorhead before working on the brush bar.

  • Clear jams: Turn the floorhead upside down. Remove the brush bar by releasing the end cap or latch. Cut away hair, threads, and fibres with scissors. Check both end bearings for wrapped hair and clean thoroughly.
  • Inspect the drive belt (if fitted): On some Bush models, the brush bar is belt-driven. Remove the bottom plate of the floorhead (usually a few screws) and inspect the belt. If it is snapped, stretched, or melted, replace it with a compatible Bush brush bar belt.
  • Check the brush motor: With the brush bar removed, gently spin the motor spindle with your fingers; it should turn smoothly. Burnt smell or stiffness indicates a failed motor. In that case, replace the entire motorised floorhead or the internal motor assembly if sold separately.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the connector pins on the neck of the floorhead and the mating connector on the wand/body. Look for bent pins, corrosion, or broken wires. Straighten pins carefully and clean with a dry cloth.
  • Test: Reassemble the floorhead, refit to the vacuum, reinstall the battery, and test. If the E4/brush error persists and the bar still does not spin, the floorhead assembly or the main PCB brush drive circuit is likely faulty and should be replaced.
