Possible Causes
Blocked cooling vents, Severely clogged filter, Overloaded motor from heavy debris, Failed thermal sensor on motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Remove the battery and allow the unit to cool for at least 15–20 minutes before inspection.
- Inspect cooling vents: Check all side and rear vents on the motor housing. Brush away dust buildup with a soft brush or compressed air.
- Clean or replace filters: Remove the main filter and pre-filter. If they are heavily caked, replace them with genuine DeWalt filters. Do not operate without filters installed.
- Reduce load: Avoid vacuuming large chunks of drywall, concrete dust, or metal shavings continuously. Use shorter duty cycles with rest periods.
- Test with clean system: Reassemble, insert a fully charged battery, and run the vacuum with no hose attached. If it still overheats quickly and shows E2, the thermal sensor or motor windings may be failing and require motor assembly replacement.
