Possible Causes
Shorted motor windings, Pinched wiring harness, Conductive debris inside motor housing, Failed MOSFET on control PCB shorted
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Remove the battery immediately. Do not continue to attempt operation as this can damage the battery and tool.
- Visual inspection: Open the housing (if serviceable) and inspect wiring for melted insulation, pinched wires, or exposed conductors touching the frame.
- Check motor area: Look for metal shavings, screws, or nails lodged near the motor terminals or fan that could cause a short.
- Isolate motor: If you have basic electrical skills, disconnect the motor leads from the control PCB and check motor resistance with a multimeter. A near-zero reading indicates a shorted motor.
- Resolution: Replace the damaged wiring harness, motor assembly, or control PCB as needed. If you are not experienced with electrical repair, have an authorized DeWalt service center perform this repair.
