Possible Causes
Failed Dirt Devil wall charger, Broken charge jack or dock contacts, Open circuit in charge wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the charger before inspecting cables or contacts. Do not use damaged cords.
- Step 1 – Outlet test: Plug a different device (like a lamp) into the same outlet to confirm power is present.
- Step 2 – Inspect charger: Examine the Dirt Devil charger brick and cord for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. If the LED on the charger never lights when plugged in (even without the vacuum connected), the charger is likely faulty.
- Step 3 – Check contacts: For dock-style models, inspect the metal contacts on the dock and on the vacuum handle. Clean gently with a dry cloth. Ensure the vacuum is fully seated in the dock.
- Step 4 – Wiggle test: With the charger plugged in and the vacuum connected, gently wiggle the plug at the vacuum's charge port. If the LED flickers, the jack may be loose or cracked on the internal PCB.
- Step 5 – Replace charger first: Try a new, genuine Dirt Devil charger with the correct voltage and connector for your model. If charging still fails, the internal charge circuit or jack likely needs replacement.
- When to stop: Replacing the charge jack or internal harness requires opening the housing and should be done by a technician.
