Possible Causes

Brushroll jammed with hair or debris, Worn brushroll end bearings, Failed brushroll motor in floor nozzle

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum and remove the battery. Never work near the brushroll with power connected.

  • Step 1 – Remove nozzle: Detach the motorized floor nozzle from the wand or handheld unit.
  • Step 2 – Clear brushroll: Open the brushroll cover (release tabs or screws). Remove the brushroll and cut away hair, string, and fibers with scissors. Avoid cutting bristles.
  • Step 3 – Check bearings: Spin each end of the brushroll with your fingers. If it feels gritty, stiff, or seized, the bearings are worn and causing overload.
  • Step 4 – Inspect drive system: On belt-driven models, check the belt for breakage, glazing, or stretching. Replace if loose or damaged. On direct-drive models, inspect the motor pinion for debris.
  • Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Reinstall the brushroll and cover. Attach the nozzle, reinstall the battery, and test. If E7 returns and the brush still will not spin, the brushroll motor or internal PCB in the nozzle is likely faulty.
  • Step 6 – Replace nozzle assembly: Replace the complete motorized floor nozzle or brushroll motor module with a genuine Dirt Devil part.
