Possible Causes
Worn brushroll end bearings, Debris in brushroll end caps, Damaged gear train in motorized head
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery before opening the nozzle.
- Step 1 – Remove brushroll: Open the nozzle cover and take out the brushroll.
- Step 2 – Inspect end caps: Remove any removable end caps and clean out hair and debris. Check for cracks or melted plastic.
- Step 3 – Spin test: Spin the brushroll shaft and end caps by hand. Any grinding or roughness indicates bearing failure.
- Step 4 – Check gears (if accessible): On some Dirt Devil heads, gears are visible under a side cover. Inspect for missing teeth or debris.
- Step 5 – Replace assembly: Replace the brushroll or entire motorized nozzle if internal gears are damaged.
