Possible Causes
Broken or stretched drive belt (if belt-driven), Burned-out brush motor, Jammed brush bearings, Disconnected floorhead wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum and remove the battery pack before working on the floorhead.
- Step 1 – Check for jams: Remove the floorhead and inspect the brushroll for hair and debris. Clear all tangles.
- Step 2 – Spin test: Try rotating the brushroll by hand. If it is stiff or seized, the bearings or end caps may be damaged and the brushroll should be replaced.
- Step 3 – Inspect belt (if applicable): Open the floorhead and check the drive belt between the motor and brushroll. Replace if broken, melted, or loose.
- Step 4 – Electrical test: With the brushroll removed and housing closed, briefly power the vacuum and listen for the brush motor. If it is silent, the motor or wiring is likely faulty.
- Step 5 – Replace floorhead: Many Essentials cordless vacuums use sealed floorhead units. If the motor is defective, replace the entire motorized floorhead assembly.
Warning: Never touch the brushroll while the vacuum is powered; it can start unexpectedly.
