Possible Causes

Hair or string wrapped around brush roll, Jammed end bearings in brush bar, Faulty brush motor in floor nozzle, Damaged drive belt or gear in brush head

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the vacuum and remove the battery pack before working on the motorized floor nozzle.

  • Remove the brush head: Detach the motorized floor nozzle from the wand. Flip it over to access the brush roll.
  • Clear wrapped debris: Use scissors or a seam ripper to cut away hair, threads, and fibers wrapped around the brush roll and at both end caps. Pull debris out carefully.
  • Check brush roll rotation: After cleaning, rotate the brush roll by hand. It should spin freely without grinding or sticking. If it feels stiff, remove the brush roll (usually by releasing side locks) and inspect the end bearings for hair or dust. Clean thoroughly.
  • Inspect the drive system: On some ETA models, a small belt or gear train connects the motor to the brush roll. Open the belt cover (if accessible) and check for a broken or slipped belt, or stripped gears. Replace damaged components.
  • Check the nozzle wiring: Inspect the electrical connector pins between the wand and floor nozzle for bent or burnt contacts. Clean gently and ensure a snug fit.
  • Test operation: Reassemble the nozzle, reinstall the battery, and run the vacuum. If the brush spins normally and E4 does not reappear, the issue was a jam. If E4 returns immediately, the brush motor or nozzle PCB may be faulty.

When to call a technician: If the brush motor does not run even when the brush roll spins freely by hand, the motorized nozzle assembly may need replacement by an ETA service center.
