Possible Causes
Blocked motor cooling vents, Severely clogged main filter, Continuous heavy-duty use beyond duty cycle, Failing motor bearings causing overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Remove the battery pack and allow the vacuum to cool for at least 15–20 minutes before inspection.
- 1. Inspect and clean filters: Remove the main filter cartridge or flat filter and the Festool filter bag. If the bag is more than 2/3 full, replace it. Clean or replace the main filter according to the Festool manual.
- 2. Clear cooling vents: Examine all external vents around the motor housing. Use a soft brush and compressed air to remove dust buildup. Ensure the vents are not blocked by accessories or storage arrangements during use.
- 3. Check ambient conditions: Avoid operating the vacuum in very high ambient temperatures or in confined spaces without airflow. Provide adequate ventilation around the unit.
- 4. Listen for bearing noise: After cooling and reassembly, run the vacuum briefly. If you hear grinding, squealing, or a high-pitched whine from the motor area, the bearings may be failing and causing overheating. Discontinue use and schedule professional service.
- 5. Reduce load: When using with high-dust tools, periodically pause to clean filters or use Festool filter cleaning features if available. Do not block the exhaust.
